Protect your privacy
(Updated: )This article is for reference only. As of April 22, 2025, MacPaw stopped developing and maintaining CleanMy® PC.
When you're surfing the Internet, your web browser stores a record of your activities, while Windows also saves a history of your internal search requests.
To keep your activities private, CleanMy® PC finds and offers to remove the following categories of data:
Cache—temporary data about frequently visited web pages, services, online apps, and more. Your web browser uses this data to speed up access to your favorite resources.
Cookies—small files sent to your computer when you visit a website. Cookies help you navigate websites and perform useful functions, but they also store private information about your activities, browsing preferences, and history.
History—a list of web addresses you've visited and files you've downloaded. Note that CleanMy® PC doesn't remove files themselves—it only clears the lists in your web browser.
Authorization—a record of credentials that your web browser has saved to fill in forms.
CleanMy® PC scans for data in these web browsers:
- Microsoft Edge
- Internet Explorer
- Google Chrome
- Mozilla Firefox
- Opera
- Safari
It also supports cleaning up File Explorer activity traces (like recently opened files, folders, and apps).
To take care of your privacy:
Open CleanMy® PC and go to Privacy.
If you're using Privacy for the first time after installation, click Start Using to scan for and detect all privacy items on your computer.
Otherwise, CleanMy® PC will show a list of found items automatically.
Review and select the data categories you want to remove, then click Clean at the bottom of the app window.
By default, CleanMy® PC selects all found data for removal. If you don't want to remove some data, deselect the respective checkbox. CleanMy® PC will remember your choice and won't select that category next time.
When you deselect items, CleanMy® PC updates your safety level and notifies you that some private information will remain accessible from the respective web browser or File Explorer.
If you need to re-scan privacy items, click Refresh at the bottom of the app window—this discards current results and selections, and updates the list.
