Smart Scan
(Updated: )Smart Scan is a tool designed to perform regular scans on Mac computers enrolled in your Organization to find and get rid of various types of system junk. This helps users keep their Mac computers clutter-free and efficient.
Smart Scan detects and cleans up different sorts of junk generated automatically by the system or apps that can be removed safely, including old cache files and logs, unused language files, Xcode junk, and other unneeded items.
When set up in the Admin Dashboard as an automation task, Smart Scan runs regularly on all Mac computers enrolled in your CleanMyMac Business Organization, according to the configured frequency, and automatically detects and cleans up the following (if selected):
System log files: Activity from system apps and services is logged into numerous files. Generally, these logs are useful only for debugging and thus aren't worth the disk space they occupy.
Language files: Almost every app comes with multiple localizations that users don't use or use rarely. They can be safely removed to save significant disk space.
Mail attachments: Each time you view a new attachment in apps like Mail, Outlook, or Spark, a copy is saved to your Mac. If you receive many images, PDFs, and even small company logos, CleanMyMac Business will find lots of stuff to remove.
Broken login items: When you remove an app or service, a broken link may remain in your Login Items.
Broken preferences: Sometimes, app preference files become corrupted, leading to improper behavior or app launch issues. Removing these files usually resolves such problems.
Trash bins: Deleted files are moved to Trash but still remain on your Mac. Each disk partition and external drive has its own hidden Trash, and apps like Mail and Photos have separate trash folders. CleanMyMac Business finds all these junk folders and empties them at once.
User cache files: Although app cache files are meant to improve startup time, they accumulate over time and can cause system slowdowns or improper functioning.
Xcode junk: For developers, cleaning up intermediate build files and project indexes generated by Xcode can free up a significant amount of space. Note that CleanMyMac Business doesn't remove Module Cache and Archives automatically.
If needed, users can add files and folders they don't want to be scanned to the ignore list. Also, they can manually trigger the scheduled Smart Scan task in the desktop app prior to its scheduled time.
