Application Updates

(Updated: )

Application Updates is a tool designed to streamline the process of updating apps on Mac computers enrolled in your Organization to their latest versions. It helps users keep their apps up to date, improving functionality and security.

Application Updates scans and registers apps installed on a Mac, searches online for their latest versions, and then downloads and installs updates if available.

When set up in the Admin Dashboard as an automation task, Application Updates runs regularly on all Mac computers enrolled in your CleanMyMac Business Organization—using the configured frequency and taking into account apps excluded from updating by Admin or user.

After an Admin sets up the Application Updates automation task in the Dashboard:

  1. The CleanMyMac Business desktop app prepares the task in the background by scanning the system and user app folders, registering the installed apps, and searching for and detecting the latest available versions.

    Note

CleanMyMac Business doesn't support updating Setapp apps or macOS.

  2. The task then appears in the desktop app, informing the user and waiting to run on schedule.

If needed, the user can manually trigger the task before its scheduled time.

  3. On schedule—or when the user triggers the task—CleanMyMac Business begins installing the app updates.

  4. After completion, the task pauses for a few days before the cycle repeats.

The pause period—that is, the cooldown period—depends on the set task frequency:

    • Frequency—Weekly, cooldown period—2 days.

    • Frequency—Bi-weekly, cooldown period—7 days.

    • Frequency—Monthly, cooldown period—15 days.
